Stepping Up Permission Form - Reading Only
Stepping UP Permission Form - Math Only

The following outlines the essential elements of the tutoring program:

Initial Schedule:

Student Identification  Completed by August 28th
Recruitment Letter sent by August 31st
Program Duration  October 2nd through March 9th

Identification of Students:
There are three ways to identify students for tutoring services:

●  PSSA results
●  District Assessment results: CBA, STAR Math, District Literacy Assessments,
●  Standardized Assessment results:
DRA, QRI, Observation Survey
●  District recommendation: to include teacher referrals, IST referrals and      parent recommendation

Recruitment:
Each school will make every effort to recruit qualified students for participation in the tutoring program. The following steps will be taken to give parents every opportunity to have their children involved in the program.

1.      Letter to parents: Initial contact will be done via a letter to parents (attached)

2.      Contract: Agreement between the parent and school district committing to the time and transportation associated with tutoring (attached)

3.      Follow-up: Each school will make follow-up phone calls to the parents who did not respond to the initial letter. That contact will be tracked using the district tracking form (attached)

Benchmark Assessment:
The following assessment will be given in the grades indicated below:

Math  Reading
K-2:    GMade   K:       DIBELS
3-1:    4sight   1-2:    DRA
   3-11:     4sight

Assessments will be administered in September and at the end of each marking period. Results of the benchmark assessments will be utilized to monitor growth.

Evidence Based Program:
The district will be using Compass Odyssey, Accelerated Math, Soar to Success, and Earobics in the elementary and intermediate divisions and PLATO Learning, Accelerated Math, and Soar to Success at the secondary level.

Tutors/Training:
It is the intent of the school to use certified teachers currently employed by the district whenever available. All district teachers have received training in Compass. Tutors being utilized have been trained in Accelerated Math, Soar to Success and Earobics. A training schedule is in the process of being formulated for PLATO.  In the event para-professionals are used training will be provided by the literacy and math coaches. The ratio of teacher to students will not exceed 1:10.

Exit/Entrance:
After the tutoring program starts students will have the ability to exit the program 3 times per year after showing proficiency on one of the benchmark assessments. A student who may not have been initially identified as needing tutoring can enter the program if need is demonstrated on the benchmark assessment. Entrance dates will correspond to the end of the first and second marking period. New enrollments will be required to take the benchmark assessment when they enroll. That information in addition to a review of the records will determine if they qualify.

Communication:
Communication is critical for the success of the program. The following methods of communication have been established:

Teacher/Tutor:
Monitoring of Compass Odyssey and PLATO online
Benchmark assessment tracking through Performance Tracker

Tutor/Parent:
Copy of benchmark assessment tracking Communication log

Incentives:
Building administrators and tutors will work with their PTO’s to assist in providing incentives for participation in the tutoring program. Local businesses will also be solicited for prizes and incentives.

Program Structure:
Each school will provide the following:  3 hours per week per content area:

●  Math:  Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
●  Reading: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
●
Math and Reading:  Monday through Thursday
