Parent Information

Breakfast and lunch is served at all of our schools in the district.  Students that qualify for free or reduced lunch also qualify for free or reduced breakfast.  Your child will have an application sent home on the first day of school.  Please fill it out and return it as soon as possible. You can fill out another application anytime during the school year if your household income changes.  Applications can be picked up in the cafeteria or at each school office.

Substituting Milk
National School Lunch Program regulations prohibit substituting juice for milk as part of the school lunch without a statement from a doctor.  A current statement from a doctor must be submitted to the school nurse each year.  If your child is allergic to milk, please send a note indicating what kind of juice(s) may be substituted and give it to the school nurse.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Meal Requirements
There are certain guidelines we must follow for both breakfast and lunch.  We must have 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowance of calcium, protein, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C for specific age groups.  Calorie needs for specific age groups must be provided.  We have to serve a variety of foods, limit total fat to 30% of calories, limit saturated fat to less than 10% of calories, choose a diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grain products, use salt and sodium in moderation.

Our district is on the traditional menu plan.  This includes a serving of meat/meat alternate, ¾ cup fruit and/or vegetable, one serving of bread/bread alternate, and a serving of milk.  We also do offer versus serve where a student can choose three of the five food items offered and it is a reimbursable lunch.

MEAL CHARGING INFORMATION

Students in grades 1-7 are allowed to charge a breakfast meal or lunch meal up to three (3) times. Notices will be sent home with the student on the day they charged their meal so parents will know to send money in with their child the next day. If a student charges up to three (3) meals and still does not bring in money, the next meal they receive will be a cold cheese sandwich with skim milk. This is not charged to the student, it is given out to the student so they do not have to go hungry.

Students in grades 8-12 are not allowed to charge breakfast meals or lunch meals. If a student does not have any money, we will give them a cold cheese sandwich with skim milk thatdoes not have to be paid for by the student to keep them from going hungry that day.
