The Pleasant Valley High School Spring Musical usually is performed on or about the last weekend in March. Students in grades 9-12 may participate in the auditions, which are generally held the third week of December. Students are required to sing a brief selection from a song, read lines and possibly even dance at the audition. Rehearsals are scheduled for 4-5 days a week and sometimes Saturday, depending on the part you are given in the musical. Students can also audition to be part of orchestra, which practices once or twice a week until the two weeks prior to the show, when attendance is required daily. Students can also apply to be part of the stage crew, which handles painting the sets, helping to create props and organize costumes, and moving props and set pieces during the performances. In addition to working toward an entertaining production, the goals of the directors are to encourage students to use their dramatic gifts and talents, to educate its members about acting through workshops and with guest speakers, to attend outside theatrical performances and to contribute to the general quality of life and well-being of people of all ages and all conditions in the district and the community through the Spring performance. Past Musicals include: Hello Dolly, Grease, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Sound of Music, South Pacific, and Bye Bye Birdie.
