Chestnuthill Elementary School is a small primary (K-4) school located on the main
campus of the Pleasant Valley School District in Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania. Established
in
1926 in a rural, agricultural community with a rich Pennsylvania Dutch
heritage, Chestnuthill was once the original D-12 township school. Red bricked with the
original wooden floors, the school is the centerpiece to the educational history of
Chestnuthill Township. Chestnuthill Elementary School currently has
225 students.
Over the years, Chestnuthill has undergone changes in both structure and the grade
levels housed there in order to meet the needs of an ever-increasing student population.
Centrally located in a fast-growing, rural community, Chestnuthill offers two
half-day
kindergarten programs and instruction in Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Language
Arts (English, Handwriting and Spelling), Library, Art, Music,
Technology, Physical Education
and
Health.
Recently, a modular was installed to provide additional room
for instruction.
The elementary school is home to twelve permanent and twelve itinerant faculty members. The school offers a full range of instructional services including special education support and an enrichment program. Instruction is delivered in an inclusionary setting and has an operating budget of over $80,000.
The school meets the challenges of a high-growth rate and yearly increases to the student population by increasing the staff and sharing services with the other buildings district wide.
Academically, our student population has achieved success on state tests and district achievement scores.
