It is an intervention, not a treatment program. Why is it needed?
The primary responsibility
of school is to educate students. However if a student is under the influence of
mind-altering chemicals, that student cannot learn. If a student is depressed
and feels hopeless, he or she cannot learn effectively. If a student disrupts
the school climate, other students will not be able to learn and teachers will
not be able to teach. Since schools are not only institutions through which all
young people must pass, school officials have a unique opportunity to identify
and help those whose lives are being negatively affected by high risk behavior.
What does the
When a student asks for help or is referred by friends or adults, the S.H.A.R.E. Team gathers information about absenteeism, discipline problems, nurse’s reports, academic performance and gets feedback from teachers about the student. The student might also be interviewed to discover what the problem might be. After all the data is gathered, the team will attempt to match up the student who needs help with any one of several County Agencies who can help or may simply make guidance aware of the students needs. Other intervention alternatives include support groups or individual counseling.
Who can make
referrals? The following organizations are those with whom the S.H.A.R.E Team works most closely. This information is offered to students and their families should help in any of the related areas be needed. ALL REFERRALS ARE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL
