Author Susan Campbell Bartoletti

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School Library is pleased to announce the visit of award-winning writer, Susan Campbell Bartoletti on May 4th. Ms. Bartoletti will give two large group assemblies during the school day in the gym, a writer’s workshop luncheon for writing contest winners, and an evening program for parents at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. More information will follow in future newsletters and announcements.

Susan Campbell Bartoletti is the author of picture books, novels, and nonfiction books for children, including the Newbery Honor book Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler’s Shadow, the Sibert Medal-winning Black Potatoes, and Dear America: A Coal Miner’s Bride. Her work has received dozens of awards and honors, including the Orbis Pictus Award for nonfiction (The World in Pictures) from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Golden Kite Award for Nonfiction, and the Jane Addams Children’s Book Award.

While the library is not conducting a school-wide book sale for students, there will be many new books by Ms. Bartoletti added to the collection for circulation in January. In addition, the author’s books (in paperback form) will be given as prizes for a poster contest and a writing contest held in April. Winners will be able to get their books autographed by Ms. Bartoletti on the day of her visit. Any other students who wish to order books may do so on their own via sites like Barnes and Noble or Amazon. Any student who brings their own book copy may have it signed as well. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Stone in the library by e-mail,
