    Teacher Biography:

I have been teaching at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School since 2006.  I spent 8 years as a teacher of gifted students in 4th, 5th, & 6th grade.  This is my fourth year as a 4th grade classroom teacher.  I am looking forward to another exciting year, but also the opportunity to work with the same class of students every day & form a family-like environment within my classroom.   My students should expect a caring & fun teacher, who loves being a teacher & will also challenge them to reach far & wide.  My motto is that you get out of life what you put into it, so my students should be prepared for high expectations.  As a former teacher of the gifted, I believe the brain is a terrible thing to waste & it should always be engaged, so my class will be exposed to enrichment activities regularly.  I enjoy teaching & I like to have a fun, inviting classroom.  I have a theme incorporated into our classroom, so it has been transformed into Neff's Nest, and you will notice the bird theme has taken over the room!    New this year is a totally redesigned & relocated classroom that includes tons of natural lighting & flexible seating options that will pair well with the workshop model I am implementing for reading & writing.  This is my 2nd year of piloting the Lucy Calkins Units of Writing & my 1st year of piloting the Lucy Calkins Units of Reading.  I know it is going to be a challenging, but exciting year for everyone!

    Academic Background:
