“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There's no way around these two things that I'm aware of, no shortcut.”
― Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
I have proudly been a part of the Pleasant Valley School District since 1993 as a classroom teacher, reading recovery teacher, and currently as a 4th grade reading specialist. I am a graduate of East Stroudsburg University where I earned my Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education, Grades K-6 and my Reading Specialist Certificate, Grades K-12. Over the past few years, I have become increasingly interested in writing instruction and how to grow and enrich the writer in ALL students. In an effort to learn more about the teaching of writing I am working towards a Writing Specialists Certificate at Penn State Lehigh Valley. One of the ways I enjoy enriching our young writers is as one of the teacher advisors for, Pencil Power, a writing club for 4th graders. Being able to guide students into find the writer hiding inside them can be a challenge, but there is nothing more uplifting than to see their shell break and a writer emerge.
