Parent InformationBreakfast and lunch is served at all of our schools in the district. Students that qualify for free or reduced lunch also qualify for free or reduced breakfast. Your child will have an application sent home on the first day of school. Please fill it out and return it as soon as possible. You can fill out another application anytime during the school year if your household income changes. Applications can be picked up in the cafeteria, or at each school office or by clicking the link on the left side of the page.Substituting MilkOur school district offers a non-dairy fluid milk substitute to students who are eligible. In order for a student to be eligible to receive a substitute beverage at school, the child must have a disability, medical need or special dietary need that does not allow him or her to drink milk. For a disabled child, this need must be declared through a doctor's note. For a non-disabled child, a written request for the substitute must be made by a medical authority or the child's parent/guardian. The substitution request by written statement must identify the student’s medical or other special dietary needs. The written statement remains in effect until the parent/guardian revokes such statement. The substitution request needs to be on file in the cafeteria office and the nurse’s office in the building the student is attending.Meal Requirements
There are certain guidelines we must follow for both breakfast and lunch. We must have 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowance of calcium, protein, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C for specific age groups. Calorie needs for specific age groups must be provided. We must serve a variety of foods, limit total fat to 30% of calories, limit saturated fat to less than 10% of calories, and choose a diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grain products, use salt and sodium in moderation.A student must choose at least three (3) of the five (5) components available for the school lunch price. Meat or Meat alternate, choice of vegetable or fruit, grain/bread and choice of fat free or 1% milk. A minimum of 1/2 cup serving of fruit or a minimum of 1/2 cup of vegetable MUST accompany a reimbursable lunch.Meal Charging InformationStudents in grades K-6 are allowed to charge a breakfast meal or lunch meal up to three (3) times. Notices will be sent home with the student on the day they charged their meal so parents will know to send money in with their child the next day. If a student charges up to three (3) meals and still does not bring in money, the next meal they receive will be a cold cheese sandwich with skim milk. This is not charged to the student, it is given out to the student so they do not go hungry.Students in grades 7-12 are not allowed to charge breakfast meals or lunch meals. If a student does not have any money, we will give them a cold cheese sandwich with skim milk that does not have to be paid for by the student to keep them from going hungry that day.Checks for Student's AccountsIf you write a check for your child's account please use dark blue or black ink only. The bank will not process checks in different colors of ink.
