COPPA - Children's Online Privacy Protection Act

What is COPPA?

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) is a federal law that imposes specific requirements on operators of websites and online services to protect the privacy of children under 13. The Act was passed by the U.S. Congress and published in October of 1998. It became effective April 21, 2000. COPPA was passed in response to the growing number of online marketing strategies that targeted children in the 1990's.

The Pleasant Valley School District is COPPA compliant and is focused on the protection of our children's privacy and safety.
